Remodel Alternatives in this Troubled Economy.
In this economy, many people have had to tighten their belts and cut the fat out of their budget. The luxury items and activities have been put on the side burner. But at the same time, you feel like you need to do something for yourself, to bring some extra joy into an otherwise ordinary time. Well, in some of my previous articles and on my website, I’ve stated how even a small project can change the look and feel of a room. Here are some lower budget alternatives to the kitchen or bathroom remodel that you’ve been dreaming about.
The first choice is making your remodel project simpler and less invasive, so to speak. Instead of taking apart the whole kitchen or bathroom, change just the counter tops or the appliances/fixtures. You can update just the vanity cabinet, counter top and paint in a bathroom and it will look like a new room. A partial remodel can give the same results as a complete remodel, a new look and feel that will boost your spirits and make you want to invite all your friends over to see your new room.
Another option is to change just the lighting and paint in a room. Paint can transform a room. Choose a new color scheme that will highlight a different part of the room and create a new focal point. You can make a room darker or brighter by painting it. You can also do the same thing with new lighting. Change from simple overhead fixtures to dramatic pendant lights, or add some under cabinet lighting for a nice touch. Have some recessed or other accent lights installed to direct the light towards your favorite artwork or piece of furniture.
Something else to consider, is to change the flooring. Having a simple tile floor put in a bathroom and maybe changing the linens and decor items, can greatly alter the look. A change of carpet or refinishing hardwoods can also affect the dynamics of a room.
Of course you can look at any combination of these, as well, to see what fits into your budget. Most people will change their personal style several times in their lives, why not change the style of the rooms you live in, every so often?

To market in terms of quality rather than price, and in order to differentiate accordingly, you need to follow the standard format of the 4 P’s marketing plan. That is, Price, Product, Place and Promotion – obviously you know the main attributes of the product, and the price, but for ‘place’ you should think about the type of people who are willing to pay over 4x price of competing product – whereas the cheap option may be sold where emphasis is on cost, your product will be suited to places/distributors where the customers will be willing to pay for quality.
